I start by washing it all in with acrylics to get the lights and darks. I then proceed to paint it in oils. This gives it a nice base and some ideas on color and depth. When finished it will have lots of snow. I hope it turns out as well as the first one.
Finished this one and started another. Working hard to get one done for the Art League to give out prints at the Spring Gala Dinner for the Artist of the Year
Well just about finished with 3 D painting, client seems to really like it. Just tweaking the lantern I added to the mantle. I have worked on this one for almost 2 months and learned a lot. I really enjoyed this, so tonight I sketched out another one to start. I completely paint it in acrylics then I paint over it in oils to make the colors really pop. I really like this technique. The new one will be shades of greys and blues to give it more of a night scene but will also have the mantle and horses coming out of the painting on the wall. These are so fun. Will be posting pics in a day or two so you can follow the progress.
I want to do some really detailed work to pick from for the prints given out at the art gala next spring.
This is the one I am finishing up on so I can get it ready to ship. Still working on lantern to make it look like glass and have reflections.
I love to paint and talk about art by Karen Johnson
