I am a firm believer in this and tell all my students. Practice Practice! When I started to paint I didn't have any art education, the small school in Iowa I went to didn't have any type of art class, the closest was home economics. I did well in that class as I have always been creative but painting oh no! Well I decided I really wanted to do this and needed to do this for my own sanity and low and behold I worked, I painted, and painted and worked some more. Now I sell and teach art and love every minute of it. When I moved back to Iowa and bought my farm I didn't have a place to paint so I took up jewelry making to satisfy my artistic talent and then I got my studio! And I have stopped yet. So stop and think about it, If you want something bad enough you can accomplish it. It is really all up to YOU!!!
IThis is why I enjoy doing abstract art with acrylics I started this painting because I liked the color, I painted the whole canvas this shade of peach. Then I started adding some spraying water and pushing the paint in different directions. I then decided I wanted to add some more colors: pale yellow, white, gold metallic and a small amount of silver by just poring some of these colors and moving the canvas around to let it flow at will, I proceeded to use a fine line of dark grey to define some of the colors added. I then just stood back and looked to see what shapes had arose from this process, And I saw the face, it looks like a child looking out in the distance. I then decided she had to be looking at something so I added the gulls, children love to watch birds and added one just to her side to draw attention to her face. This is the process I use many times to do abstracts, color, making it flow, then see what appears and emphasize that area. If you have any questions or comments please respond to me.
